Gustave Eiffel Was born in France in 1832. In his young adult years he attended college and majored in Art and Manufacturing. After he graduated in 1855, he specialized in metal construction, mostly bridges. BEFORE THE EIFFEL TOWER Gustave would build metal bridges and eventually open up his own company in 1866. He designed the arched Gallery of Machines for the Paris Exhibition of 1867. He created a great reputation for himself. 10 years later, he designed the 525 foot steel-arched Ponte Maria over a River in Portugal. Working with the same design, he also created the renowned 540- foot Garabit viaduct in Truyere, France. He worked on the Statue Of Liberty when the original engineer passed away. The Eiffel Tower would become more then just a sketch in 1887. |
